Winery Gioia & Filippo Cresti - old layout
Territory
Fattoria Carpineta Fontalpino estate, owned by Cresti family since late '60s, is located in the heart of one of the world’s most famous and charming Italian wine regions - Tuscany - across two exceptional production areas: Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi. The winery grows in the historic town of Castelnuovo Berardenga and it develops in the area of Montaperti, theater of the mythical battle between Siena and Florence, which took place in September 1260, also recalled by Dante Alighieri in his Divina Commedia. As the legend tells, in the Montaperti hill, there is still a secret tunnel dating back to the battle days that leads straight to Siena city center.

The Chianti area is known worldwide for its unrivaled natural beauty, characterized by gentle hills on which the woods leave room to antique vineyards and olive tree groves; here and there, surrounded by lines of wise cypresses, an ancient house or a medieval hamlet can be seen. To enjoy a glass of wine at sunset - when the colors come to life in an unexpected, intense way - immersed in this astonishing, magical place is a truly unforgettable experience.
Alongside the natural beauty, this area is also famous for its lovely cities and small towns, each one with stories to tell, typical cuisine, and artistic and cultural heritage.
The most famous one, of course, is Siena. Only 8 miles away, it is a city with many different faces: art, amazing food, great history, and, of course, the Palio, the world famous horse race that happens twice a year in the summertime.
For the city inhabitants, passion for the Palio goes beyond the simple sport competition: it is directly connected with the life of the city and its traditions, that keeps the bond alive with its history. This passion for the Palio is shared also by Gioia Cresti who is actively involved in it.

Winery
The name Carpineta Fontalpino, which has never been changed, comes from the two historical places where the winery is located: Carpineta - an area with trees with silver-backed leaves, typical of this area - and Fontalpino - the fount with the pine trees of Montaperti.
Owned by Filippo and Gioia Cresti, brother and sister, the property faces the wide-open valley of Montaperti. Surrounded by mountains, it is always kissed by the sun, which is a very important factor to produce excellent red wines, such as Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi.
The winery extends to about 80 hectares, 28 of which are cultivated to vines, divided into grape types of Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and other experimental vines (Petit Verdot, Alicante, etc).
The vineyard is on a terrain composed of a mixed clay sand, supported by a good rocky layer, at an altitude ranging from 230 to 380 meters above sea level. The average age of the vineyards is about 22 years - the oldest being about 40 years old and the youngest 5. This guarantees an excellent and efficient selection of the grapes upstream, before the transformation and fermentation process begins. This way, the bottled product is always the result of the best elements available.

History
One of the most famous wines of this family owned winery located in the heart of Tuscany, near Siena, is called ‘Do ut des’, which roughly translates as ‘What goes around comes around’. This Latin aphorism expresses one sharp truth, extremely dear to the Cresti family: the land is generous and gives a lot…to those who work hard with commitment and dedication.
Brother and sister Gioia and Filippo Cresti are the living embodiment of this truth. Since their decision to recover the farm and the vineyard owned by their parents since the 60s, they have gone through the joys and pains of this brave enterprise. Every success, every satisfaction, every bottle of wine is drenched in passion, hard work and great effort. Sometimes, even moments of discouragement. These, however, never overcame the determination and the commitment of Gioia and Filippo. Supporting one another, moved by the pride of belonging to such a generous and ever surprising land, they restored the entire estate and its vineyards.
Today, all those sacrifices paid off. Their property, called Fattoria Carpineta Fontalpino, is a charming little estate producing excellent and refined wines on 28 hectares of land located across the exclusive Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi area.
Gioia is the oenologist and is responsible for all the production phases, from winemaking to aging, choosing the best grapes and bestowing to the whole production her own personal style. Filippo is mainly involved in the productive part, in the organization of the countryside and also in the commercial and marketing development side of the business.
The wines they produce from local vines such as Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are true expressions of this beautiful and generous land, as well as of the personality of those who created them with passion and determination. Like one of the winery’s labels: “Il Sorriso di Gioa”, clearly showing both Gioia’s character, always positive and energetic, and the land of Chianti, 100% Sangiovese, untouched like 150 years ago.
Selected varietals
“Chianti territory is a DOCG divided into 8 geographical areas of production mainly distributed between the provinces of Florence and Siena. Il Sorriso di Gioia includes 2 of them. The “Chianti Classico”, developed inside the most important and historical area of production, is a wine obtained from Sangiovese only, with 2 years of maturation, which gives it great elegance, depth and long finish. The “Colli Senesi”, another 100% Sangiovese wine, is produced in the southern area of Chianti DOCG, in a more open and exposed to the sun valley. It has a fresher and lighter structure compared to the Classico.
